I don't want to make everything here Google-based, but here's a mildly interesting finding from the weekend:


Searches for "NBC" vs. "CBS" are correlated with 2020 Presidential Election results. (More NBC searches in a state = higher probability of a Biden win.) In fact, using logistic regression, in 37/51 cases, seeing the extent to which a state searches for NBC as opposed to CBS can tell you whether Biden or Trump won that state.


Put another way: let's say you have no polling data, no demographic data, no info on past elections, no economic data, nothing. All the information you have is how often people in a given state are googling "NBC" and "CBS." With that info alone, you can accurately predict which way that state voted about 73% of the time!


This is kind of interesting. Not mind-blowing. But is it a top 15-20 interesting thing you'll hear today? Maybe!
