Kings and Queens

I watched Monday Night Football last night, and the Ravens' Patrick Queen seemed to be all over the field. I hadn't heard the surname Queen before, which is curious because the name King seems super common. I took to Wolfram Alpha to get some info:

-Sure enough, King is the 35th most common surname in the U.S., couched between Wright and Scott. In the 2000 Census, 1 out of every 615 Americans was named King.

-Queen, meanwhile, clocks in as the 1847th most common surname, which lands it between the names Spicer and Doty. 1 out of every 15,083 Americans was named Queen in 2000.

-Prince is the 700th most common surname, while Princess doesn't even return a result, which I assume means it's exceedingly rare.

This is all kind of surprising, but in a broader, sadder way, maybe it's not that surprising. I thought maybe the lack of Queens is made up for by an abundance of McQueens, but it looks like the etymology there isn't related to the word "queen." In fact, one theory is that McQueen derives from an Old Norse word for, surely enough, "boy."
